Five hundred leaders gathered in Moscow on Wednesday, November 29 – Saturday, December 2 to catalyze the next generation of evangelism across Russia and the former Soviet states. Moscow is the second largest city in Europe at 15 million with 35,000 Protestants. St. Petersburg is the 4th largest European city.
The organizer, Blair Carlson, was with the Billy Graham Evangelical Association for 24 years. Blair is a brilliant missionary with a heart for the church along with a Cantonese speaker having grown up in Hong Kong.
The Lausanne Movement team in Moscow (Nana Yaw Offei Awuku from Ghana, Las Newman from Kingston, and Ole-Magnus Olafsrud from Oslo) were all really pleased with the Movement Day story and its potential around the world.
The challenges of Moscow speak to the enormity and complexity of large European cities. We need to pray for the unity, vibrancy, and muscularity of the church in the great cities of Europe.
